New heifer

This is a 2 year old heifer we bought about a month ago, she is bred to a black angus bull. Not sure what all she has in her but we think she will be a good cow.

She looks kind of like a Pinzgauer cross? Look up what Pingauzers look like. She looks a lot like one. Also, I will agree tha tshe also could have some Shorthorn or Hereford in her as well. She is an excellent animal with a great structure. Well, hope she throughs a go calf for you. :cboy:

i agree, i think shes got some if not all shorthorn in her judging by the coloration and the look of her head.

She is not a Pinzgauer cross. We ran a Pinzgauer bull through our commercial cows in the early to mid 80s and those white tails were still here 20 years later. The white tails on a Pinzgauer are as persistent (OR MORE) than the white face on Herefords. We had white tails on stuff that was only 12% Pinzgauer. Pinzguaer times Hereford actually has the Hereford White face AND the Pinzgauer white tails. Those are some very easy cows to find at night)

My guess is that she has alot of shorthorn in her...nice short legs, can see why the Pinzgauer could be in her....just my opinion.....I'd expect a nice calf with a Red Angus bull....DMc

:shock: :o hello-o-o :shock: Are you people looking at the same Dominant Genetics in this heifer that I am??? It's not Pinzgauer - it's not Maine-Anjou - it's not Braunvieh - it's not Shorthorn! Can you say "- - -probably mostly Hereford, but not purebred" A heck of a good looking Heifer, and a great potential Commercial Brood Cow. She should have a fine calf - IF the Phenotype and EPD's are in proper proportion for your particular requirements!

apparently not because she has nothing that would indicate any hereford breeding in her other than the fact she has red and white SOMEWHERE on her. shes not even hereford red, shes shorthorn red. are you even looking at her face? thats a shorthorn face if i've ever seen one.

maine anjou would even be a decent guess. but not hereford.

We actually have an old girl who has an almost identical coloration as the one pictured (white underbelly, short stockings, and the small star on the forehead). She's about 1/4 hereford, 1/2 red angus, and 1/4 shorthorn. She is the heaviest milker in our herd, and a great brood cow at almost ten years of age. Has a darling dark red heifer calf at her side right now, and there's not a nicer calf in the herd.

she has white on her back at her shoulsers and her hipbones. while i could see the white hairs at her shoulders coming from hereford, the white at her hips shouldnt... so that still makes me lean toward shorthorn. by all means find out if you can before it drives us all crazy. :santa:

After looking at the breeds that have been named, I think she could be any of them except Hereford. She does have a Shorthorn head. Her red isn't Hereford red. But, having said that, a black baldy is hereford and isn't Hereford red either. So, it will be interesting to find out what her breeding is. She is a real nice heifer and one that I would like to own myself.

Well - - we have batted this poor gal back and forth like a Tennis Ball! Her ancestry has been questioned to the point of embarassment! :oops: Except that she has no idea that she is the center of contention that she seems to be! :o But, the important fact of the matter is - she appears as if she will make one FINE brood cow for a Commercial operation, and if her matings are planned with care, she should make a bottom-line profit for her owner. There are hundreds of possibilities of cross-breeding that she ISN'T - but I think she could be part Hereford (I don't know what percentage :?: ) and part Red Angus (Percentage ?? :?: ) If Shorthorn is in her lineage, I think it would be dilute. I do agree, though, about the 'Shorthorn-appearing head. Genes can produce some odd manifestations - - and all you have to do to prove that to yourselves is to look at your Grand Kids! Or MY Grand Kids!
