Last Friday evening, we sold our bred heifers in a regional heifer sale. I thought they did well for the way the prices are now.
This year, we had a run of bull calves and only have 5 heifers, out of 30 calves. So my plan of having several home raised heifers to sell next year didn't happen. On the bright side we have several steers and a few bulls to sell. Today we went to market and bought 6, 522lbs heifer calves. My wife took some pictures of both sale day and buying back.

Our breds averaged $1548, I haven't heard the official average of the whole sale yet. I gave $1.12 for the new calves.
 
Is your regional heifer sale through UK and the extension service? We have one on our end of the state, but it's a bunch of homecooking, and only certain ones can get in.

The way that I read it the sale catalog listed as contributors: Montgomery County Cooperative Extension Office, Bluegrass Stockyard East, LLC, and Kentucky Department of Agriculture. This sale seems to be open to new consignors. There are other sales in the area that are as you described.
