After my grandfather passed away in 99 I got a Holstein heifer that he was bottle feeding and I raised her when she was 2 I turned her in with my other cows and she raised some good calves over the years. in 2008 she had her first heifer and 2009 she had a bull calf and got milk fever and died so I kept the 08 heifer for sentimental reasons. 02( she has a name) is a small cow 750-800lbs max. she is tiger striped and looks like a typical dairy. I noticed she was bagged up a week or so ago. I missed her Friday so first thing Saturday morning I found her and she had waded the pond to an island like area I could tell she calved but couldn't find a calf. I searched everywhere and figured she had it and it drowned. I was headed back to the jeep and I saw something in another pasture across the fence. She found a hole or made one and had a runt calf about 35lbs. it was healthy and I took him 2 her and he sucked then I moved the calf out of this area and back with the herd. she would be a cull on most farms and even though she had a dink this time she milks well and should have a decent weaning weight.

Glad you found him. It's amazing how cute calves are, the runts the most so.
I would have kept the daughter, too, under those circumstances.
Was she also small when she was born? What is her other half if her mama was Holstein?
