New bull

Help Support CattleToday:

Newborn bull calf from 3/4Char cow. Big strong boy. More calves are already due in December. Could say that winter calving is starting.

Finally, one more calf. 4 cows and one heifer were due these days, and finally we have one calf.
286days gestation. Limox heifer out of AngusxSalersxdairy cow. Will weigh the calf tomorrow, but should be ~90lbs. Cow had her last calf on 26th of January, so it makes two calves in one year. :)
Another cow started calving at the moment, so waiting for one more calf. Other two cows look near too, one on 285th, another on 290th day. Heifer, however, is on 296th day... Her full sister calved on 295th day in January.

New calves born last night. Both bull calves. While we calved one cow in the shed, another has calved outside.
The red calf weighs 92.5lbs, the black not weighed, but should be ~100lbs. The previous heifer weighed 96lbs this morning.

New arrival. Heifer calf from CharxLimox 2nd calver. Born last evening. Not weighed yet, but should be around 90lbs. Calved very easily, because cow is ~1700lbs+.

Let the bull out today. He sure put some weight on. Now he'll be with some pregnant heifers, some first calvers and a couple elder cows. Almost all are incalf, so he'll be able to have some exercise before the bigger work and we'll have more time for AI in the main herd. In June he'll be moved to the bigger herd.

The first day out and already had some work. One first calver was in heat today.

The left one is his daughter, born in March, the right one- other bull's daughter born in January.

Have put our boy for sale this summer. Yesterday have met his possible new owners. He should leave us after a month and will have some work to do already. He has left us some pretty nice daughters, which should grow into pretty big cows. Our previous bull was short and not heavy, weighed 1819lbs when we sold him, but some his daughters, especially some 3years old ones, are pretty big, ~1550lbs and still growing. This bull is much taller and should be heavier.

Some of his calves, which I like the most.
My favorite heifer this year. 3.5months old out of 12years old half dairy cow. If most calves looked like her it would be a pain to choose replacements.

Another which we will keep as replacement. 6months old.

Our so called "purebred" heifer. 5months old.

Unfortunately not keeping this one. Will try to sell after weaning. 4 months old.

Again, very nice heifer, but with limited space can't keep her. 5months old.

One from last year favorites. 17 months old, full sister with the previous 5mo heifer.

Every bull should bring your herd forward and it looks like he did that for you.
Yeah, wanted to get some bigger framed daughters from him to improve size and calving and so far it looks to be happening. The first his daughter should be calving next year in May and they are incalf with not very easy calving bull, so their calving ability will be put to the test.

what is your reason for sending him away? Love his disposition.
Have plenty of daughters from him. Also going to search for a bull, which would add a bit more meat. Wanted abit bigger bull to improve the size and calving ability of the herd with this one.
He'll go to the other farm, so we're happy.
