new Brangus bull

I agreed to buy this bull this morning. They'll be delivering him after he's tested. He's 19 months old. I'll be using him on commercial Brangus cows to raise my own replacements. What do you think?

Rafter I by no means am a "bull expert". I can only give you my personal preference.
I personally would not choose him for my cows because of the extra sheath and extra white. Other than that I like a lot of things about him, and he may be just right for your breeding program. I especially like his thickness, top line and hip.
Though I do think that they have pushed him hard and fast on the feed and possibly puffed his hocks.
Again, I am no expert and it is only one picture.

I'd use em on my cows. His sheath is a little long though.

I'll agree the sheath is a little long, but I like Brangus to really show the Brahman influence, so it's going to be hard to get away from that. Some breeders seem to be working toward less of the Brahman look to clean up the sheaths, but if I want a bull that looks like an Angus I'll buy an Angus.

Then he is perfect for you. We get docked for it here in Cali. They don't sell as well. They want the Brahman vigor without a lot of leather.

The white puzzles me some. The sheath is definitely excessive. And to me the picture makes him look a little short in the length to me. But I'm sure he will do a fine job.

Thank you. He's supposed to be all Brangus. As a couple of other people have pointed out, his sheath is a little long, but if he was perfect I couldn't afford him. I really like his depth and thickness.

Thank you for your input, and you're certainly right about people having different goals. I plan to use him on some of my mostly Brangus cows to raise my replacements, which I'll breed back to a Hereford. I can see why he may not work for someone raising registered cattle.

He is a good looking bull, I would use him would look real good on some Hereford cows.

This bull should sire the kind of heifers that you are looking for. I like his length and depth. If all calves were going to the sale barn you might want to use a cleaner sheathed animal, but then you give up the kind of females you want.

With that plan, you will minimize the sheath and the white wont matter. :D
I certainly do like other aspects about him!

I saw that bull listed. If he's sound, I think he's a steal at the price they had him listed at. He should make some pretty awesome replacements. Congrats!

Thank you for the congratulations. And yes, I bought him for the price they had him listed. I tried to talk them down some but didn't have any luck.

Buy him and use him. You'll be glad you did. The sheath is ok and the white won't appear on many of his calves unless he's breeding some other breed of cattle that are not black. Most of those "clean" sheathed brangus bulls you see pictures of have been photoshopped...most way too much.
