(Though not the same as loosing a child.) I had a kind experience from the waitress at our local sale barn restaurant one day.
One morning I was on the highway north bound, on my way to a Dr.s apt. The speed limit is 70. A couple of cars ahead of me start swerving and I see a truck pulling a gooseneck stock trailer go off the road from the left hand lane in a cloud of dust. The left embankment had a ditch then a steep slope upward to the south bound lanes, so the truck and trailer lined out nicely with all left tires in the ditch.
As I started to cautiously pass, I saw the driver was not looking so well. I pulled over in front of his truck and put my flashers on and ran down the ditch to his truck. (It was the rare occasion that I had heels on damit!)
He was unconscious so I jumped into the passenger side onto the seat next to him, turned the truck off and flashers on, called 911. I stayed with him and talked to him until help arrived.
Anyway after my Drs. Apt, I got to thinking that he was probably headed to the sale barn and I could find out who he was and check to see if he was alright. So I went to the sale barn restaurant and ordered some pie and coffee. I explained to the waitress what had happened. And asked if she knew who this gentleman could be.
Well they had already gotten word that one of their "regulars" had went off the highway and was taken to the hospital.
The sweet waitress thanked me, and bought my pie and coffee. She took my phone number and kept me updated of his progress also.
As it turned out, this gentleman has ranches in more than one state and his wife is very good friends with my sister (who is in a different state). It is a very small world, and people become linked together in mysterious ways. :D
