I started about 21 days earlier than you but ya gotta love it no frozen calves not getting stuck checking calves or worrying about a cow calving and snow covering it up

Maybe ol Plumber Greg will figure out that fall calving is great :lol:

I hear ya's..... but I loooooove spring calving. LOL. Our weather is a little more predictable, and unlike Angus Cowman, our nutrient values of native grasses suits spring calving better than fall. Grazing winter annuals in the early winter under 2 feet of snow doesn't work so good for us. Hope the season treats both of you well.

i like them both they have advantages and disadvantages. so i have 2 groups for now, we are going to move to fall all the cows who will move up.

I still have 12 fall calvers. Last nite a thunderstorm came up, dumped 2" rain on them. It wasn't any fun not getting up and worrying about them. If it'd been snow and cold, I would have got to see if all my yard lights work, and got to carry them in the barn. What fun is fall calving, don't you like your baby calves? gs

I had fall calvers, then I bought spring calvers, then I left the bull in, and now I have sold the late ones.
So I have a spring/summer calving herd and the bull is busy for several months. :)
Seems like this works in the north. I sell the big calves in the fall and turn the smaller ones out in the spring.

3 more heifers calved since the original posting . . . . loving it loving it loving it. Got a "storm" coming tonight too and I'll be sitting in my cozy chair drinking a beer and being grateful. I still have a couple that will calve in January and I'm dreading the 3 times a day trudging through the snow in the dark to see what's happening.
