Only lost one bird so far....but if he keeps hanging around I may need to apply the "three S's" of pest management.
 
isn't that one of those extremely rare owls that shut down the timber business in Washington and Oregon? You better be careful they don't turn your farm into a national park!! 8)
 
We have three that have patrolled the place for years keeping down the rodents but this is the first time that one has taken a hen.
The Spotted Owl is over on the coast and caused a problem until the folks finally figured out that protecting them just put them on the hit list...if folks have a few hundred acres to log off and the owls move in...they seem to fly away quickly.

Don't think I could make a kill shot on that. Maybe the branch or something. Be thankful you don't have that Cooper's hawk hanging around. I had one take out 12 of my thirteen snake roosters and the last one was so paranoid I think he just died of heart failure - well actually he got nailed too.
 
We have lots of them around, but they create very few problems. Our chicken problem is them pesky chicken-hawks. They do however, make very good target practice. :nod:

You think that one owl is good, wait until you get two of them doing the nasty at night. The noise is like nothing that you have ever heard before....
 
Problem solved...found what appeared to be the same owl floating in a half full stock tank Sunday morning...first time that has happened.
