I'm needing to find about 200 more acres of pasture here in N/C Kansas for next summer. What is the best way to go about finding some? Should I put an ad in the newspaper? If so what is the best time to put one in? I have a feeling it is going to be hard. This is wheat country and not pasture land around here. And when some pasture land does come up everybody fights to get it. :o Oh I should add it's to rent. Thanks, RJL

Can't tell you a thing about how to go about it in Kansas. In Texas you pick up a newspaper and see all kinds of offerings and solicitations, especially in some of the smaller towns that have newspapers.

I wouldn't expect it to be a lot different in Kansas or Oklahoma or where ever.

In Iowa, you just don't come up on 200 acres of pasture. Hell you don't just jump into 40 acres of pasture. A lot of the trick is to be around and know the people that are getting out. Also drive around your area and see if there are any areas that are forgotten about. We have found a few pastures that old ladies own and never do anything with...You might have to put in a new fence but thats what you have to do.

You know someone should set up a program to lease the land during the spring and summer from all the city folks that have purchased land to hunt on. Atleast in my area they are the ones that have driven up the price of real estate and it usually sits idle for most of the year. If you could figure out a way to plant food plots, set up stands, scout wildlife etc for them you may be able to get a good deal. Have thought about doing it myself actually, but man do I hate dealing with alot of those folks. Got into two fights this past deer season alone. I am thinking about quitting rifle hunting and start bow hunting just to avoid em.

I'd run an ad, but 200 acres is alot of pasture to rent, may not get it altogether, here and there, and I imagine the price will be high.

Go to your county courthouse and get a platt book and start looking around to see who even owns 200 acres in your area or the area that you want. Here in Missouri every county has a platte book and they run anywhere from $25 to $50.

It shows their name and the amount of acreage, township, section, range, etc.... and then you can look em up in the phone book or if there isn't a phone listing then go to the courthouse and find out who's paying real estate taxes on it.

Otherwise, run an ad in the paper or put one up at the feedstores. (((( You'd probably get a quick response if you could run your ad in the obituary column, you know how old people are, the first thing they read is the obituaries in the paper........... just kidding))))))

Why did you add...."just kidding"?

It is true, we just want to be sure our name is not in it.

You'll do the same in due time!!
