I have a holistein bull calf which was dumped on my property, and am tring to get an idea how old he is. I am thinking around a month old. He is very malnourished as you mentioned. Any advice on figuring his age? :?:

What does his umbilical area look like? Any remnants of a cord? What about the way he moves? If you startle him, does he jump up, fling his head up and kind of bolt in a stiff legged sort of gait? Is his back end filled out at all? Is it possible that you might be mistaking malnourished for a very young calf?

Well anything is possible especially since I am so new to the cattle business. When I go to his pen he comes to me wanting to eat and hoping I have a bottle in my hand. His umbilical area is a little tiny bit puffy and no reminants of an umbilical cord at all. His back end is not filled out either. I cant figure out how to get a pic on here but someone posted a pic of him for me on the Health and Nutrition board on a questioon I posted.
