one quarter full....others soft.....im pretty sure things are ok but someone told me to milk out any quarters the calf wasn't sucking yet to prevent mastitis....Calf is only 2 days old...he isn't going to suck every quarter is he? I pulled the tit and the milk is just colostrum .....

Is this a Holstein or a beef cow?
If a beef cow leave them alone, the calf will get to the others when it's big enough. Unless they're a balloon the calf will figure them out just fine.

A Dexter....duo purpose....I think you are right....just got a bit worried thinking about what the dairy guy said............I don't plan on milking her til next week so don't want to lose a quarter if there is some kind of problem...........I want to keep on top of things...

Most of the time you're okay for about a week before the cow really needs to be completely milked out at least once a day. A cow is designed to handle not being milked out at first after calving, since calves rarely nurse a cow dry in the first few days. If you're worried, strip her out once a day just to check all four quarters.
