Good shooting. How you gonna cook them?

Thanks Jo... I never ate them always used for predator bait this time I will try this recipe. How does that sound to you ?

3 lbs. gar-cut into strips
3 lbs. potatoes, boiled, drain and set aside
3 onions
1 egg
Black and red pepper
Salt to taste
Oil (enough to fry in)
Cook gar until half done (about 10 minutes). Drain. Grind gar and onions together. Put into large pan. Mix potatoes and egg and salt and peppers into gar. Mix well. Roll into small balls. Roll balls in flour. Fry in hot oil until brown.

That is some good shooting! Years ago I use to do a lot of archery hunting but never got around to shooting fish. But than again the only type of fish I heard archers shot was carp.

Thanks Alan I shot them all with one shot too and was 40 yards away.... :lol: Here we shoot gar and carp but if you shoot a game fish like bass or catfish something of that nature in public waters you will get a ticket.

LOL thanks I will probably make some later on like september when I plan on doing a fish fry and will upload some pics I hope they taste good cause I have a endless supply of gar around here lol

Cut these out and cut them into chunks. Take a pot of water and add Zatarans crab boil spice to the water and bring it to a rolling boil. Drop the chunks in the water and let boil for a minute or so then turn the heat off and let the meat sit in the hot water for about five minutes then remove and dip the pieces in melted butter and sprinkle with lemon. And now my friend you are eating South Georgia Lobster. :nod:

lol oh ok ... I always club them cause few years ago one took a liking to my ankle when i set him down I thought it was dead but i was wrong.

I used to bow fish for carp and drum. It is a ton of fun especially when they are spawning. I have shot 2 or 3 in one shot on several occasions. When you have 3 skewered fish on the line they will turn the water white with their splashing trying to go in 3 different directions. This would be a WORLD of fun!

Nice video I never saw anyone shoot them as they jumped out the water... I just shoot them from the john boat or bank while in water... That would be fun though.

I've shot carp with bows, but the biggest challenge was snaring suckers in one of the "pasture" rivers in VA, not sure which it was, calf, cow or bull.

We didn;t snag them, we snared them. A piece of piano wire with a loop in one end fastened to a cane pole with the other end hooked t5o a lever type of handle. We helad it under water till the sucker swam through the loop then pulled the lever and basicly lassooed them. We stood on an old cement pier that I think had once been part of a dam or maybe a pier for a bridge. I had a lot of free time on my hands that summer.

I don;t even recall. Back then I traveled all over the state. If I rememebred which part I was in at the time I would be able to figure out which river it was. That would have been about 1967, 68, or 69

We snag them here too. I wade and flip a big old treble that is painted white at them. Settle it around them and start jerking their scales off. I enjoy that probably more than fishing. Suckers are good eating!
