What does everyone on here think of NAIS...i think its a good idea but it seems to me to be more oriented toward large operations...maybe i am wrong but my opinion it is just a way to help build trade with other countries...should we say policitcal maybe i dont know i guess it is a good idea but im not sure the reasons behind it are actually there just want to see what everyone else thinks

P.S. I just was reading a thing that says tags run from 1.50-2.00 thats not to bad but the wands that it requires to read the takes will run ya another 700-1200 dollars thats fair number of calves just to do the same thing the "old fashioned" platic tags do but thats technology right the world we live in

Yeah, and tags can and will be lost. Are you familiar with BSE and all it's implications on the American Beef Industry?

yeah i am for the most part i understand that it is a problem but i think there could be better ways to solve it than a national identification system. NAIS isnt goin to solve the problem will make it easier to track down the contracted heard but wouldnt it be better to work harder on not allowing animal by products to be fed i dont know i just think its again supporting the big guys and leavin smaller guys like me wondering what to do. I guess a bunch of us smaller guys could all partner up and buy the wand

Just wanted to know everyones opinions on it just trying to gain more knowledge on the subject and others peoples opinions

You're right, NAIS isn't going to single-handedly solve the problem of people violating the feed ban. It will, however, allow the USDA to track cattle so the powers that be can identify those people that are violating the feed ban, thus allowing them to better enforce it. Just my thoughts.

Like I said i think its a decent idea but i think there are other ways to go about it right now premise i think is an awesome idea that really will do something knowing each farm but each cow seems a little extreme i just think its a big political thing but if it helps keep japanese trade up and keeps our products worth something then i guess ill go with it aslong as it doesnt put smaller operations out of business

WA premis ID 47241....
Not all that much work involved but we're a small operation and intend to use the ID number in our advertising program. Besides it is intended for animals that are to be shipped from the location....almost all of ours only leave the farm swinging in the butcher's rig. DMc

I am currently against the NAIS. I believe it should be a consumer driven program rather than a government driven program. I live in a brand state I do not know but imagine AZ could track back within the required time to ranch of origin. I do tag my cattle and expect a percentage of loss. Oh well enough rambling let the market drive it. :D

Since the first mad cow disease found in the US, my calves have brought more money than Ive ever sold them for before. Havent decided whether NAIS will be a good thing or not, I just wanted to point out that fact .

interesting i see all ur points and they make since i guess if its govt run we dont have a choice but to do it so if we wanna raise cattle we go with it
