Here are some pics from the trail ride I was on this weekend. Notice the white horse has no rider. That is NOT a good thing
.
It was the Roche Percee trail ride south east of Estevan, Sask. We had a 4 hour drive to get there. And I ended up with 1 broken rib and some other really sore ones. We sat in the Emergency Room for 3 hours for them to tell me that there really isn't anything that they could do for me other than give me some pain killers. (Tylenol 3 is pretty good stuff ;-) ).
I started out on my horse, for the first hour, who in hindsight (250 horse/riders, 16 wagons) wasn't ready for that much excitement I guess. Since she was being balky and difficult I took up the offer to have her ponied. Which went well until we caught up with the group again. As soon as we caught up she pulled back and of course when she hit the end of the lead she started to fight. She was dallied up to the saddle horn and when he finally got her undallied she had so much momentum going backwards that she literally fell over backwards (this all took about 5 seconds). Not good, but fortunately we sort of fell opposite ways. The saddlehorn caught me on the left side and slid off. They were asking me if I was OK, and I just stated, "No, no I am not OK :| ". They checked me out, and since I wasn't feeling that bad, I got to go on the wagon. When we got back to camp they sent me off to the emergency room and I got x-rayed. 1 broken rib and several injured ones. Could have been a lot worse. I went on the wagon again the next day, and that wasn't a bad decision until the last hour (5 hour ride) when we went down a really long, steep and rough hill, and then ran into a thunderstorm. I'm glad to be home, but can't wait till next year. Hopefully we can make it there again, and this time I can stay on my horse ;-) .
