Some of you may remember my dog Luna from the dog pic thread. She is a lab/golden retriever mix. Maybe 26-28 inches tall and weighs around 40-45 lbs. Yesterday while walking around my pond one of my neighbors German Shepards came through the fence at a dead run barking at us. Luna met him head on and put him in a dead run back home. Then the neighbors other older and bigger Shepard decided to try his luck. She put him on his back and I had to call her off. She never stops amazing me. She is one of the most loving and affectinate dogs I have ever been around. Loves people espcially kids and will let another dog eat her food out of her dish without making a sound as long as one of the family isn't around but let another dog start a ruckus with us in the yard and she becomes a holy terror. That is twice the neighbors Shepards have come through their fence running at us and she has put them back home quick. She actually scares me a little she gets so hostile but as soon as they are gone and the hair settles back down on her back she is back to her old playful self wanting to fetch her tennis ball out of the pond. She is quite the protector.

Aren't they some amazing animals? Mine is a lab-? mix female and she has that exact same temperament. I've always found it interesting that as long as I don't mind it, a strange animal is fine by her, too. But as soon as I give any indication that it needs to go, she's on the case bigtime. Seems to be able to read my mind (what little there is of it).
Saw a study that said the difference between dogs and wolves is that dogs can understand your intent,and wolves can't..If you point at something,a dog will go see what it is,a wolf won't..(Or that was my understanding.)

She sounds like a wonderful dog! I have always heard that females protect their people, and the males protect their property.
