All 7 of old Daphne's calves were half angus and were sold for meat. Her first calf brought over $1000 in 2013 bred to someones's #1 quality Angus bull . We had to pull that calf. After that her calves developed more and more dairy character with each passing year. We were lucky if an order buyer at the sale barn needed another black calf to make an order. Her half angus heifer calves took all summer to halter break for family milk cows. 2 months later they were like no one had ever laid a hand on them. One lives across the road now as a brood cow. She raised a big calf. Daphne's 13 years old now and has been open for 2 years. But I had always wished for a Jers Heifer calf from her.
Over 3 weeks ago I woke up to a sound of scraping and banging outside in the yard. I went out. Daphne had a plastic lawn chair stuck on her head. I got loppers and cut it off. She then attacked the chair, butting it all over the lawn. I said get away from here. But she came back to attack the chair again. I let her into the lot and she mounted Honeydew and then HD tried to mount her. Daphne was in flaming heat. I called the AI guy and he came over and inseminated her with sex selected Jers semen. After 21 days she has not come back into heat. The neighbors wandering bull was fenceline with her today and yesterday and was only interesting in licking salt. She might have a biscuit in the oven. I will do a urine test in August to see if this is true.
