New Red Pony out of gas, Old Red Pony full..........so out on Old Red Pony. Old Red Pony has a gun rack so i can go out armed. The gun is for killing, the bat is for things i just want to mess up........New Red Pony has over 8000 miles now, starting from August. I drove Old Red Pony for years, she doesnt have a odometer but i'm guessing she has over 20,000...if not more. She breaks down a lot... :?

You can cover a lot of territory in a hurry with one of those. I'm too old tho. Just use a mule and go slow.

I can sit all day, and sometimes do on a 4wheeler. We also have a JD Gator and the way it bumps, it throws my back out just like a QH does. I'll get on the gator, but i have to go very slow. I think what it is is that i can brace for some of the roughness with my legs on a 4wheeler where i cant sitting in a seat on a gator. But yes, i cover a lot of ground and since i usually make rounds 3 times a day, i have to do it fast or i'd never get anything done.

Lol I had 2 Kawasaki's just like that. Now I just have the Mule with the dump bed. It hauls more! They sure are handy, and it beats saddling up a horse every day when you have as much land to cover as you do!

Once calving season is over, i do check on horseback occasionally. I like my Honda best, its more dependable. This one has spent more time in the shop and cost so much money just to keep it running. I do a lot of riding in the woods too, i have to do it on a 4wheeler. There are only so many places a bigger atv cant go out here.

TB I have a feeling that cowgirl has a lot more energy, and might be a bit younger, than I am! Lol
I can still ride a horse all day, but I want to rest the day after! :lol:

I have my 2 workhorses.. a 1986 Honda XR100 that I use for putzing around changing irrigation lines, It was given to me as a worn out unit, I put new forks, tires, rims, chain, and engine on it (pretty much everything except the handlebars and frame), not much jam to it but it's OK, Then I have my draught horse, the 1984 Honda XR 500, take a bit more of a kick to start it, but it will outrun any cow, and often just blipping the throttle is enough to tell them what I want of them...

Ever seen a bike with a trailer? I hauled about 4 cords of fir firewood (12" butt, 40ft long) down the mountain with it.
I use it to get wood from the main stockpile too


And when the fields get too muddy to take the 1 ton truck, it feeds the cows too.. That's about 600 lbs of weight behind the bike and it's got no trouble pulling it,.. Empty is quite a show, the trailer sails over the frozen cowpies and only spends about 10% of it's time on the ground.. makes for interesting tracks in the snow!

I'm from the northern version of East Texas ;)

I made a trailer hitch on it... When I brought down the trees they were just dragged, no trailer... And it was 1 tree at a time!... I ought to take a pic of the pile sometime too.

I chased a couple dogs with the bike too.. that was good fun.. they were running so fast they couldn't run through the barbed wire fence, so they just had to keep running...

I'm in the same boat, plus I can;t sling my leg over one of those. Haven;t been able to for years mostly thanks to the 4 legged kind.

When my kids were younger we had dirt bikes around. My son had a Kawasaki KX80...It was like a rocket with wheels. My youngest daughter had a boyfriend who was all into racing, he had a racing family. He brought over all these racing things. He had a dirtbike and the front wheel never touched the ground. He had racing 4wheelers and the front wheels never touched the ground. The 80 was great to have around the horses. At first it freaked them out because they sound high pitched and loud. But after a while they got use to it....We sold the dirt bike, son outgrew it quick...

My cows have learned that "putt putt putt" means they're doing what I want them to, and when I start to rev it, they aren't doing what I want them to... The good cows will look for where I opened the gate, the dummies will run into the middle of the field, which means more chasing.
