I'm an old, straight Caucasian male, so I guess I just don't get the attention given to these stories. Pvt. Manning will likely ask the Army to pay for his surgery. Medicare is "considering" paying for similar cases, which means eventually they will. In 50 years this will be viewed like Dr. Frankenstein's experiments. WTF are we thinking.

As far as don't ask don't tell, in my brief experience with the military we had a guy who was trying to get out of it. He tried faking injuries and that didn't work. Finally he told the drill instructor that he was gay(he wasn't)... He got an article 15 with a bunch of extra duty and half pay for "telling". :lol:
