mustard seeds

Hi we were giving three 50 lbs bags of mustard someone got at a farm auction. We have beef cattle and can`t find anywhere that says they will eat it. I think it might be in the cabbage family not sure. has anyone ever planted it or feed it to beef cows thanks

Mustard is a crucifer (same family as cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, brussels sprouts, kale, turnip, etc) and depending on the kind of seed you were given it may be useful. If it's actual mustard, they may not like it, and you'll get a really nice crop of wild mustard growing on your land that cattle won't eat. If it's grazing turnips or forage rape it may have a use for you.

In all the years we've been at this we've had exactl;y one cow that would eat it. She would knock down a fence to gobble it up once it bloomed, ignored it the rest of the time.

I've never planted it for cows but I grow curly leaf mustard greens in the fall garden every year and deer love it to death.
