Anyone having problems with mushroom pickers? I guess some are hallucinogenic. With all the rain we have been having we have them growing everywhere and air heads going into our fields and picking them. Sheriff got two men the other day.

Amazing! What people will eat -- I think they eat them... that grew up underneath a cow patty...

...ICK!

Lived in Deland Florida a number of years ago and two old fellows that were brothers would go out and pick mushrooms and sell to the airheads. The sheriff would arrest them every so often butt they said there was more money in roons than cattle.

Probably just a bunch of good ol' boys from Tennessee or Alabama!

Would they be riding around in a 69 charger? Would they be chased by Rosco P. Coltrane. Would they have a sister named Daisy? Would any of this resmble you Bullbuyer? :P

My family drives hours to hunt for morel mushrooms ~ all over the state. Sometimes we come home empty handed, but sometimes ~ bonanza! They are fabulous. In fall we pick different ones out of pasture and cook almost everynight. Also eat fiddle head ferns, before they uncurl in spring. Lots of tasty things in the woods

I dunno what kind of "shrooms grow in my backyard, but 2 of my 4 dogs love 'em...those little tripsters. Dude.... 8)

We learned how good morel mushrooms taste about 10 years ago. During the morel season, people are worse than they are during deer season about parking on the road and walking all over the farms in this area. We usually get a couple of thousand each spring. They range from 2 inches early in the season to as much as 20 inches tall by the end. Some years 10-12 inches are as big as they get. The 3-5 inches ones are the best eating. I never learned which of the others are good, but those morels are outstanding eating.

  I don't know the name of the mushroom but there is one that grows here that deer like to eat. I had a professor who was convinced they ate them to get high cause after consuming them - he said they were oblivious to their surroundings.

Daisy Duke or Miss Daisy? Decisions are tough.

Back to mushrooms....
Hoosier has been defined as someone dribbling a basketball around the Speedway looking for mushrooms.
I have eaten the fungi, but I'm not an enthusiast. Many, many of my fellow Hoosiers measure good years and bad years by the number of mushrooms they brought home. '07 was a lean year, so next year has to be better. The preferred prep is either deep frying or sauteed in butter.
I thought the hallucinogenic shrooms were all out West. My pastures are full of the puffball mushrooms. I don't know the proper name for them, but if you kick one it gives off a cloud of spores.
Corn smut is a delicacy in some circles. Go figger?
