Went out to check cows this am and found cow with new baby. Yea! Next found another cow in labor with a red bubble from her butt, so thought another baby soon. Had to go to other place and didn't get back till after 11am. Still no baby just red bubble, so time for plan B. Called my regular vet and his office is closed for a few days, so called next one down the road and he's also closed till Monday. Called another clinic in town the other direction and vet said is booked up until 2:30-3 in the afternoon but call him back around 2 if still needed. Got cow penned and trailer hooked up. At 2 no change with cow, so called vet and he said meet him at clinic at 2:30, so away we went. Get to clinic and vet goes in, says calf is backward and big, cow not dialated much. Hooks up puller and starts to pull slightly but can't get far with it as no dialation, says need c-section. 30 minutes later has baby out and it's alive. Yea!! Sews cow back up and at 4:00 we're headed back home. At home baby tries to stand but doesn't quite make it so give him a bottle of colostrum supplement, pour some Karo syrup on baby and cows nose and put them in small pen together. Have to go put out hay, get back just as sun is going down and see mom licking baby so hopefully she will take him. Plan to give baby more colostrum in the morning and hope mom can take it from there.

Been a long hard day for this old man. Sure hope ol' Murphy takes some time off for a while and lets mom raise her new baby.

Sounds like a great day to me. Could have had a dead cow and 2 dead calves. Anytime everything is alive doing ok after a day like that, I always feel it was a good day. I just don't hope for another to soon.
