Got a mulcher rented and we have started clearing out under the trees.

We are going to see what comes up first. There are some good chances for rain next week. I've actually had pretty good native grasses come up after clearing what has been in brush my whole life. Not sure if this will get enough sunlight or not for grass though. Another factor is the mulch. With good rain it breaks down pretty fast. If not we will have burn it out.

This may become a borderline addiction.

Some thing kind of funny is I obviously don't run equipment like this all day, every day. My brother and I went eat lunch and when I signed the ticket my hand was all jacked up. My signature was all jerky and I felt like I had to really think to force my hand to do what I wanted. I don't notice it while Im driving but they are definitely wore out.

Hard to see in the video but looks like a Takeuchi machine?

If so there should be hydraulic detent switch that you flip on then use the joystick button to give yourself constant flow without holding anything.

Not the most user friendly setup but once you figure it out your thumb will thank you. You need button A to be set to "detent mode".

It worked. Pretty easy. Push toggle to turn it on then press A. A tune it on and off.

Feels like a cheat code from Nintendo games back in the day. LoL

After the mulching when it sprouts back do you spray the under growth? I have seen some mulching around here and it is amazing how fast it comes back unless controlled.

Who did you rent it from? I have been looking but haven’t found many places to rent from. Bobcat in Houston but they want $5000 a week. Forget delivery & pickup $$$

Mulching thick cedar we have to burn it. If not it takes years to decompose and the grass will not grow back through it. Im sure it's different in other situations.

Local rental place in Victoria has them. $4700 delivered for 40hrs but it will be more. We are not getting our deposit back.

I'm definitely not taking out every thing. There are areas with big trees we are opening up so hopefully the turkeys will roost. A lot of the rest is strips that meander through with open areas and what not. Opening up old roads and things too.

It's not just for cattle. We are trying to clean it up because the yaupons and cedar and all that was killing the good trees. If I see a big low tree the kids will play on I mulch a big circle and tie them in to ride through on atvs and sxs and stuff. It's kind of an all-around project.

I used to thin pines with a chainsaw and burn piles. Got a mulching head a couple years ago, you can do in one week what it would take 10 years to do by hand. Worth every penny.

Thanks. Looks like what I need to do. Have some nice Oaks but the vines are a real mess. Also a fair amount of down trees that have been laying down for awhile. This is an area with a seasonal creek. The down trees and limbs make some good dams. Just need to clean it all up. Can you give me a name? Only 45 minutes to Victoria from our place. Thanks in advance.

My hate for windrowing brush has been fully renewed and fueled. Especially when it gets piled on nice trees.




It's a mess when you hit an old pile full of dirt and cedar trees.

The are some big ones through these areas. This one had yaupon all under it. It would eventually kill it.
