BCG, what kind of spacing and how deep is the rebar on your tie foundations? That's interesting to me that it works.

I was looking at placing one of those car port shelters over a new hydrolic shoot and then enclosing one side. I may think this over some more.

I could only get 8 foot rail road ties here. So there is 3 re-bar stakes driven in each one, only about 2 feet deep in the ground. (Gotta have a real good drill bit for the ties!)

We once did a portable barn on ties that was 2 12x12 stalls on each side with a 12 ft alley way down the middle. (So a 24x36 building) But only the stalls had the ties. We didn't even use the re-bar. The barn was attached to them with the L brackets and that's all it needed.
I don't think the car ports are heavy enough though, better anchor with the re-bar. The nice thing is, the ties add some height.
 
April 2015 sale catalog from a local place has 12'z40' open front monoslope roof metal frame calf shelters with megapanel liner on skids look similar to the shelters BCG posted priced at $6990 :shock:

Their making some money on that one it sounds like. Prices do fluctuate with the price of steel. Maybe that "Megapanel liner" is some expensive stuff also! I will see if I can pull up a local ad here.
 
Here's one on our local Craigs list. If you Google portable horse shelters, you get a whole slew of manufactures.

Same April 2015 catalog lists the price for 1 1/4" thick Megapanel as $1.66/sq ft for 4'W x 24'L. 1" thick 4'W x 16'L is priced at 78 cents/sq ft. http://store.cammackranchsupply.com/category-s/1895.htm

My uncle built a machine shed using only megapanel for the sidewalls and covered with steel. Many other permanent pole structures in this area are built similarly. I wouldn't hesitate to use megapanel as a liner in any kind of building construction , just as long as it is protected from weather :idea:
