Mr. TC's oldest daughter could certainly use some prayers. And the Town of Union Lake, Michigan.
Last Tuesday, she had an angiogram for yet another brain tumor. Watch and wait for now, just like the 2 on the other side of her brain. And Friday, she was at a neighbor's house when they took a direct hit from the tornado that essentially destroyed Union Lake. It took an hour to find and extract her from the rubble but amazingly, she's alive. Two of her friends that were with her did not survive.
She's in the trauma unit at a hospital in Kalamazoo and has a long road to recovery, physically and mentally. Both her arms are broken, and she had surgery to put in rods yesterday. One leg is broken in 2 places, currently has a halo but surgery to put in rods later today. Skull fracture on the back of her head and spinal/cervical fractures, currently in a neck brace for probably a few months. All the ribs on one side are fractured, all the ribs on the other are completely broken, essentially just floating, and a punctured lung. She has a tube in her lung and surgery to put plates on her ribs tomorrow. She has lost a lot of blood, primarily from her lung, and has multiple transfusions. Severe lacerations and has had surgical debridement.
Pictures and videos online are horrific and surreal. We've been hit twice by tornadoes, but it doesn't even compare to the devastation at Union Lake. Her husband sent me pics of the tornado as it hit their neighbors house (taken from another neighbor across the lake). The red arrow in the 2nd pic is their house, which, unbelievably, is still standing with not much damage. Trying to wrap my head around that.
Shout out to Lowe's!!!! Her husband has worked there for years, and they immediately went into action. The CFO was on a conference call Sat morning, approving funds and supplies for not just my stepdaughter, but the town. Her husband is on paid leave and Lowe's is also paying for hotel rooms for him and their kids (that are grown). Even his boss went with him yesterday to assess the damage and had a load of supplies. 5 out of 5 stars, no more shopping at Home Depot for me!
