Mostly Hereford cows

Herfs do real well in my part of the world. At minus 30 and deep snow or plus 95 and standing in the shade of the trees, they all seems to handle the weather and our terrain - hills, bush, swamps, pasture very well. They are calm and have never pushed a fence on us.
We tend to like the horned herfs best because we let them stay out year round in the wild. We do not train the horns down or cut off the horns of those who stay in the herd - but let them grow pointing up - they make a great weapon and defense mechanism.
Never had a problem with them in the chute or the handling system.
Found one cow - tag number 99 - nick name "Gretzky" - with a coyote stuck on her head a few years back. Seems she did not like it getting too close to her three week old calf!
Never lost a calf to 4 legged critters with them in the back fields.
Best part?
They would come on the run when we called them. Amazing what feeding a gallon of grain a day to them when you check on them does to make them love you. LOL
