More troubles with law inforcment

No not that way, over the period of many years I have lost all respect for cops. I realize not all are bad, badge heavy or just plain dense. We do have good officers out there, it's just the bad ones that remain in my memories.

A couple of days ago my son was coming up to help me on the place, he drives about 45 miles to get here. This is how he told it to me; he looked in his rear view mirror and he had a guy in a large pickup on his bumper repeatedly giving him the finger. He said he doesn't know we're he came from or what he did. They were in town ans coming to a light that just turned red, as my son slowed for the light the truck shot passed him, almost, in the left turn lane and tried to cut back in front of him at the light. The truck clipped his left front fender. Then the driver shot through the red light and took off. My son caught him at the next light and tried to get him to pull over, driver took off again. My son called 911 and continued to follow. Long story shorter, the guy finally pulled over but refused to give out any insurance info, this guy is about 60, my son is 28. The guy gives my son a couple of shoves which results in another call to 911, cops arrive.

Cops ask my son for ID and proof of insurance, which my son provides through an app on his cell phone with State Farm. So to sum it up the truck passed my son illegally in a left turn lane, trying to cut my son off hit his car and then took off, hit and run.

My son received a ticket for failure to provide proof of insurance $271, and another for careless driving for slowing for a red light $295. :mad: The issuing officer was kind enough ( :roll: ) to tell my son that the proof of insurance is his judgment, but the ticket will be taken down to nothing in court. Then what the hell write the ticket for. So I guess the moral of the story is don't slow down for red lights if you have someone on your azz because careless driving is a lot worse than running a red light. :mad: :mad:

Lucky for my son a lady stopped and became a witness, she supported and backed my sons story completely, why does my son have to waste his time in court? His insurance company told him, when he reported the accident, electronic proof of insurance is legal proof of insurance in Oregon. Just a cop needing to meet his ticket quota. :mad:

Wish I knew what to tell you Alan. We lost one of the good city cops here. Only pulled me over twice. Once for no tail lights and it was dark. Loose wire. No ticket. Lost my rear plate and he pulled me over to let me know. No ticket.
He had pulled over my son for no tail lights too. Son found the loose wire on his truck and fixed it. No ticket.

We have the twins aka Twiddle Dee and Twiddle Dum. They were following my son around town trying to bust him for anything, but would not bust the kid that was harassing my son last year following him around and making threats.

There are good and bad out there in all areas.

Hope your son goes to court with his witness and hope the cop is there too and the Judges dresses him down, but doubt he will.

The other driver wasn't the cops uncle was he? Sounds like good old boy $hit to me.

I found myself witness to an accident in Alabama once between a black truck driver and some white trash brood heifer. I thought they was going to be a lynch mob after the trucker hit the car after doing everything humanly possible to miss her after she pulled right in front of him three times as he tried to miss her. After witnessing the whole thing I went to the scene and stood in the right of way as a trooper began taking statements from some people who weren't even there. I listened to one guy and had to interject to the officer that that was not how it happened at all. For a moment I thought he was going to cuff me but he just put his finger to my chest and told me, "Boy you better shut up cause you are in enough trouble as it is". :shock: Had it not been for the badge me and him would have tied up right then and there. Would have got my arse whooped because he was a big un but I'd have landed a few blows which would have made it worth it. Instead, I stood there till other troopers got there and I walked that thing all the way through the court system and even got to sit by the judge in the witness stand. None of the other "witnesses" showed up or they had been disqualified for in-bred family reasons. I taught the attorney for the girl a lesson and he learned an attorney should never ask a question if he doesn't already know the answer. My testimony got the whole thing tossed out of court and the judge wanted to talk to me a little more about what all the trooper had said to me in private.

Lot of truth in this. Especially in small towns where there is a lot of turnover in officers. Postponement of court cases till the officer leaves the force has gotten many a person off for some serious traffic offences here.

Just to balance out things-
Have two local deputies that are doing a great job
Their reward- someone shot their bulls and their dogs on the same night.

So you think the department did anything- NOPE
The neighbors got together and put the word out that if something personal happened to them again- they would be dealing with the neighborhood........ again.
I think the KKK got out of hand, but they started out as a good thing around here. Might be time to bring back an organized neighborhood coalition again.

We're were dealing with the city police right now. My son was showing out and got a ticket wreckless driving, needless to say Mom and I aren't very happy. Went to see the black chief and he was no help, but the officer was great. But he still has to go plead innocent before it's resolved. We're donating the money and he's washing cop cars once a week for a month. Kind of good old boy stuff, but I don't think he will show out in town anymore. And our insurance rates won't go crazy. I love living in a small town.

Wreckless driving is a wonderful thing and I've been doing it since 1982, but my wife has had 3 of 'em in the last 32 months--all her fault.

I'd have taken my son and the witness identification to the Chief/Sheriff. I'd have taken a few minutes of his/her time. I'd have let them take care of the ticket and their employee/officer. Sometimes, you just need an edge.

A few years ago in CA, I was riding my power wheelchair in the bike lane against traffic. A CHP officer "pulled me over" and threatened to write me a ticket the next time he saw me doing the same. I explained to him I would welcome the ticket anytime he had the time. The ticket would have cost me about $100 bucks. It would have cost the department $4,000. So I felt it was a worthwhile trade. (Their office wasn't wheelchair accessible with a fine of $4,000.

I was told to leave a Mall at Christmas time because I had my Service Dog with me. They issued me a ticket because I wouldn't leave without one. Long story short, my ticket was dismissed by the chief. It additionally cost the department over $10,000 and cost the Mall hundreds of thousands for not only throwing me out but also for all building code violations in the mall.

Damages should rightfully be paid by anyone that breaks the laws. Especially when an officer is using the laws immorally and unethically. Thanks to the damages I got, I am no longer obviously disabled as I was able to re-build my body. Thank you very much.

Then I moved to Oregon. Now I have what I used to have when I was born in CA in the 50s. Affordable living with cops that are neighbors. Regular guys doing good work. We are also an open carry state. Which means when I walk into the Sheriff's office or store I'm not instantly thrown against the wall with a hundred guns pointing at me. Now it seems we have returned (for me anyway) back to a more personal place to live.

PS: Cops that tend to get out of hand here seem to get a timeout. One officer in Oregon issued a ticket because a driver didn't instantly inform the officer he was carrying with a CC permit. The cop was just measuring instead of being professional. There was a resulting lawsuit against the department. There is nothing in our law that says we must tell anyone. It cost the department a bunch for the clarification. Now the rest of the state knows.

We just need to remember, cops are us. They must comply with the laws also. They have the same percentage of bad seeds as the general population.

I was thinking about what I needed to do and was not aware that I was going too fast and was pulled over. I did not have the paper copy of the insurance because I thought that the phone app was OK. The officer said that they could not accept it. Fortunately for me he was able to check on the state database (Texas) and was able to get proof of insurance. I was given a warning thank goodness.

I hope that this mess gets resolved in your son's favor.

That's just the kind of BS that drives my anger, it's okay if the cop pulls up the proof electronically but the driver can't do it in their on defense.

My son goes to court tomorrow morning to enter a plea, he'll plea not guilty to both tickets. I don't know if they will set a court date then or just resolve the matter tomorrow. It sounds like he has his ducks in a row, he has a hard copy of proof of insurance, a letter from state farm stating our Govenor made it legal in the state of Oregon to provide electronic proof of insurance, and he has a copy of that also. It's the careless driving for slowing down for a light that concerns me, he has a statement from the witness ...... But I really believe this is a money grab. I'll know more tomorrow, we are a long way from the friendly local Sherriff anymore. :bang:

I can't complain about the database because when you renew your license plate, it allows the clerk to confirm that you actually have insurance. A person can show a piece of paper and not actually have insurance. They pay a few months and let it lapse, but the paper shows that the policy is valid until a later date.

Just to complete the saga, my son pleaded not guilty and was given a court date to appear. The failure to provide proof of insurance was thrown out of court the same day the court date was set, bottom line is zero cost to my son. He went to court a few days ago and the cop was there, the witness did not show up. My son told the judge what happened and the cop kept tripping over his own story. Ticket thrown out and at least the judge gave the cop a little tongue lashing. The cop was just a dumb azz kid, younger than my son. :mad: Son ended up wasting his time, no fines, no tickets and both my son and the jerk that hit him had state farm ins. My son got $800 in vehicle damage from state farm and the idiot got an increased rate ....... I hope.
