More Gray Hairs

Was spending a nice day at home.

Son had bought a parts truck from some friends. Going to pull the motor out of it and rebuild it and stick it in the truck that I used to drive until the block cracked.
Phone rings and it our son telling us he has been in a wreck! No he is not hurt, no his truck is not wrecked, but the car hauler trailer is now trashed and the parts truck is on it's side in the middle of the one lane of the highway and the trailer is in the other lane!

Hubby and I both head out. Find a long line of cars on both sides and a deputy dealing with some irate azz's. Son tells us he was going 40mph and there is a frost heave in the road and he hit that and the trailer started fish tailing. He did not hit the brakes but pushed in his clutch hoping to slow the outfit down. He did end up on 2 wheels in his truck then the trailer hitch cut loose. It twisted the ball and hitch on the back of his truck and one of the safety chains bent the hole completely up. It had enough force to push his truck into the ditch and it flipped the parts truck off and the trailer was upside down and the frame is twisted.

Deputy got a good laugh when I looked in his side mirror and told him that yep there are more gray hairs!

I am glad your son is okay. Metal can be replaced. I bet he learned from that experience. When our son was a teenager he had a few of those experiences. And I did get more gray hairs. :cboy:

That is what I told them Jalopy! He had 1 friend in the truck with him and a couple more friends were a ways behind him! They said they got there just as the parts truck quit sliding. These boy's Mom works as a sheriff's dispatcher and was on duty when they called in the accident. Both of us Mom's agreed we have more gray hair! :lol2:

A couple of trouble makers from his school were up at the pull off laughing about the accident and when hubby and him were towing the parts truck up there to get it out of the way they refused to move until son got out and told them to move. Pretty sure he burned their ears.
I was walking the highway picking up pieces.

Hubby is looking for another car hauler trailer.

Too bad about the bent metal, but certainly good that no one was hurt.

I had a trailer load of hay (120x80 lb bales) start fishtailing on me as I was passing a big rig... that was no fun.. I just put my foot into it and tagged the trailer brakes a bit and it settled itself.. really not a nice feeling at all.

Told hubby we can turn that wrecked trailer into a bale feeder for our replacement calves. He liked that idea.

Bought a new trailer today. Going to pick it up in 6 weeks since it is going to be built in Washington then shipped over here. He went with a tilt bed and several other things he decided he could get now.
