moon blindness

Help Support CattleToday:

Some see bactirial infection(leptospirial) - the same bactiria as that found in Lyme Diesase. Some studies show that it maybe genetic. Other reasons may cause this are vit def/nutrition, injury, parasites. So there are different factors as to what causes this. But they are still researching. Right now what you heard could be a posibility of either.

I am getting a yearling filly off a farm that I know has had 2 studs with it. Is there a way to know if she has it? What are the odds that she would?

Cattle Gal has most of what causes Moon Blindess or Recurrent Uveitis summed up. To get a vet text reading on it you can go here.

What breed it the filly you are looking at buying? Also does she have pink pigmented skin around her eyes? OR does she have Blue eyes?

Appys and paints are at higher risk because of thier coloring patterns as well as horses with the pink skin and white hairs around the eye tend to have a higher risk to contracting RU as well as horses that have blue or lighter eyes.

Hope this helps.
