Hello, I have a year old angus heifer. Both her sire and dam are registed Black Angus from a well bred herd. She is a year old and only about 34" tall. Is this a throw back or one person told me it is a lowline but I thought they were all a diffrent breed. She does not have an dwarf characteristic. Does anyone have any information about miniature cattle from standard cattle? Thanks

we had a very small black heifer last monday and my husband thinks she's a dwarf but I think she's just tiny. I do have a minature dwarf horse and she is just 21" tall and she definitely has the dwarfism characteristics so I know what they look like and this calf has none of them. Her mother is a red angus we believe and the bull was angus.
Way back In 1977, the average hip height of Angus heifers reported to the AHIR program was 42.5 inches. So your girl is quite a bit shorter even than that. If you don't think she's a dwarf, could she just be stunted from poor nutrition? Or you could post the registration #s of the sire and dam here and someone might be familiar with them and give you some insight.

She is out of a herd that has a big sale every other year. She was small at birth but not unusally small. It was a first time heifer who had her. The heifer died at 10 days so the calf was hand raised. She shows no dwarfism. Wondering what to breed her to, could she produce a normal size calf? I have access to a miniature zebu bull.

Since you already have the mini Zebu bull and the heifer is mini sized, sounds like a logical choice. If you wanted to keep the Angus phenotype in the calf, you could AI to a Lowline bull.
