Milk Replacer

Update on my bottle calf. Her name is double 00. She just got her ear tag.

What are the thoughts on feeding eggs to calves?

00 is getting 4 eggs twice a day :o Is this a good thing :?:

Calving has kept me busy, the snow, mud, and all. We are getting average 3 new ones per day now. And with the first time heifers, well it's a job.

I would be very careful with the eggs. If she is getting an adequate amount of good milk replacer they are not necessary. Also, eggs can be a source of salmonella poisoning, and they are almost pure protein and can cause scouring. I have never fed my bottle calves eggs for the reasons cited above.

The only reason I fed some calves eggs was because I was desperate to stop scours and I'd been told it would stop scours. It didn't...

Sooooooo, after that little fiasco, and after losing the calves I fed them to, I've never even thought about it again.

Yeah, it's wretched...I'd wake up in the middle of the night thinking what ifs... :(

The only reason I feed eggs is becouse I have them. My 30 or so barnyard hens lay eggs like crazy this time of the year. We eat eggs couple times a week, family, freinds get free eggs. Still a couple dozen eggs a day are hard to keep up with. I always have a couple bottle calves and have always fed eggs. Never noticed any problems, Just wondering if eggs are a good source of nutrients for calves. By the way I cut back on milk replacer, and it saves on costs. And the eggs are always fresh.
