... As you watch the news of the flooding in the Midwest\ East , have you noticed that there
are no farmers running around with stolen plasma TVs or holding stolen
liquor over their heads. There's no looting or yelling "Where's Bush?",
"Where's FEMA?, Where's my check?", or "Why isn't the Gov't out here
saving me and my farm?"

Likewise, I've also noticed there are no reports of any other country coming
to help or sending aid.

And where are Reverends Jessie Jackson and Al Sharpton?

Shocking contrast isn't it???!!!!

Although that is true I did hear yesterday about a few burgularies in flooded areas of Cedar Rapids. I was sorry to hear about that I thought maybe the midwest would get by without that type of activity.

Good point isn't it funny how when the tsunami occured in SE Asia a few years back the U S rushed in with aid(money, food, medicine, clothes, manpower) and we were chastised for not getting there fast enough.Which is what usually happens by the way. Yet when the U S suffers a catastrophe several months later,Katrina followed by?Rita? no other country in the world offered to help not even our "allies" We have already rebuilt roads and bridges and hospitals in Sumatra and there are people in New Orleans who still don't have a real home to live in. These folks along the Mississippi will rebuild(with help from low interest gov't loans) and go on while our gov't pisses away our tax money running all over the world giving to other countries and expecting nothing in return. Really does make you wonder....

I was in that Tsunami in Sri Lanka, and all the help and money that the people got they deserved. I get your point, but no one gave England any money when we had all the bombings in London, the latest and the ones in the past with the IRA> the reason is America and England are rich Nations, the people helped in the Tsunami tragedy are poor and all they had was what they stood up in there was no such thing as Insurance for those poor people, they had no Government aid, since or before the wave happened. So how can you expect help from Countries that have nothing, when we are the two Greatest Nations. It is the Governments faught that the people in NO have no homes not the people in Asia, if the people in NO got off of their backsides and stopped whineing and helped themselves they would not be in such a state. The people in Sri Lanka, rallied around that very day the Tsunami happened, once it was apparent that no more waves were to come in, the people went around to see who they could help, even though most had lost all that they had including family, there was no looting all that was taken was what was needed to survive. The safe's from the diamond mines and the jewlery shops were looked after by the locals, not a thing that was touched. We went without water, electricity, and comfort for days, we lived on the mountains and helped each other, all Nations. So I am afraid in my opinion you can NOT compare the situations. All are bad, don't get me wrong, but our Countries as I say have money to put things right. I could write a whole lot more about the Tsunami but at this moment I wont, maybe I will write about it on a separate posting if anyone wants me to.

In my opinion thats what makes America the best country in the world. (No offence to those people from other countries out there).

But I was also thinking today how it was funny the Midwest hasnt had the same type of problems New Orleans had. Maybe they are just tougher, harder working folk (the majority).

The point of this post is to show the big difference between people who work for a living verses people who have their hand out their whole life, generation after generation looking for free hand outs from the government. They are as different as day and night. :?

Stand on the right street in Cedar Rapids you would swear you are standing in Na Olans. If you get my Drift. Every city has em just not the huge population like New Orleans

Herd on the news last night that Secretary of State Condolezza Rice just returned from China. Her mission was to access damage. Does this mean that we are going to send aid to China as well? Tom :cboy:

Chrisy...I'm still trying to figure out why the Brits keep trying to hang on to Ireland or a part of it at least.

I keep asking that question. All I know was that during WW11 we needed to keep Ireland so as the Germans couldn't get to our shores easily. I asked a few Irish people that I know about this and it is Ireland that wants to stay in the Union. This is because if they pull out they loose their National Health Service, and that can be very expensive if you become ill or are out of work. Hope this answers your question.

Oh I agree with you Chrisy but we won't be rich nations much longer. I don't want this to turn too political but what makes me wonder most is why do we (USA) send our money all over the world and expect nothing in return? Those farmers in Iowa will be offered low interest loans and will be expected to pay them back. We have oil yet we buy from else where, we had manufacturing but we regulated a lot of it out of the country so now we import goods, when there is a disaster somewhere we go help them rebuild yet our own rails, roads and bridges are falling apart. The basis of our economy is producing goods and that has shrunk to the point where we are now service providers not manufacturers. We now borrow money from China. Can we afford to keep giving away America?(or Britain?)The individual has borrowed more than they can repay and now so has our gov't. I said on another thread that things are going to get very bad before they turn around. this country hasn't known hardship or NEED since the '30s we have been running on WANT for way too long. Those folks in both N O and Iowa they may understand it better than most but until the ones running the country can understand it I don't see it changing, unfortunately.

Am I making any sense or am I way too tired to be on here?

Dale you hit the nail on the head, the credit crunch as they are calling it here, has began and I can see another Wall Street and FTS crash, both Countries seem to be in serious trouble, but still the borrowing and giving goes on. To me charity begins at home, so before giving aid to everyone else our Countries need to help themselves. And maybe see that the War in Afg: and Iran are futile and a needless waste of life and money and pull out, how much would that save us. As for disasters in the third World (which we will become if we don't watch out) yes they are bad, but at this present time the Countries need to get on with it themselves, instead of reproducing more babies. I'd say all we need to do is show them how to use contraceptives, and be like China a few years ago and only have two children max. just my two pennies worth, before we/I get this thread shut down.

I have to agree with you. But how do we get our Government's attention? I do not think voting for eather candidate will make a difference. So what are working Americans to do ? Tom :cboy:

I've said it before - damage control. Vote for the ones that will do the least amount of damage.
