Has anyone used MGA to synchronize heifers or cows to close up any gaps. I first read about it on here but can't remember the thread. Did a little studying on it and looks like a good product. Feeding MGA at an accurate rate can be tough but they make range cubes that supposedly help with the feeding issue. Might be worth a try.

My neighbor runs stockers and uses it if he has heifers. But that's to suppress estrus, not sync.

We do some times. I’ve had mixed results. It’s better than nothing, cheaper than CIDRS.

Basically the same idea. Take the Mga away and in a couple days let the orgy begin.

Looked into it. For the cost and effectiveness (fairly low) I choose to run them thru the chute and give a shot of lute after bull turn out.

What are you trying to do? AI, induce heifers into breeding, or get difficult cows to breed up.
Hope to start raising heifers next year so looking into things. We also have some late calvers that I doubt will ever catch up so thought it would be worth a try. I've never found the magic wand so thought I'd ask first.

A progesterone like mga or a cidr would help with that. A couple years ago, I had good luck with just putting in CIDRs on heifers for a week before putting the bulls out. Just moving forward the calving date ten days would pay for the CIDR. I didn't lute them because I didn't want to over work the bulls.
For cows, locking up the calves for two days when putting the bulls out is a very cheap way of improving conception.

A single shot of Lute on day 4/5 after bull turn out is a good way to get a group synced up as long as you have the bull power.
Never seen any research on locking calves up for 2 days improving conception. Seems stressful for both cow and calf defeating the purpose?

The idea is to bag the cows up and that will induce cows to come into heat. It is the same idea as the male lion killing the females cubs.
The problem with lute is that all it does is bring cows into heat but does nothing to correct underlying infertility.

The problem with any sort of help to get them into heat is that it doesn't address underlying infertility. I don't lute to try and cure infertility I do it to have a very tight calving window.
No way I'd lock calves off cows at breeding. Any sort of perceived gain would be lost in bawling cows and calves who have nothing on their mind than to get back to one another.
