Sunday, the man-child visited and brought the family. He had put new decking on his front porch and graced us with the old wood for our burnpile. So hubby burnt our existing burnpile Saturday to make room for his load coming on Sunday. They unloaded a tall pile of wood that likely is from the 1880's since that is when their house was built. It's plenty dry. They leave the truck and trailer next to the burn pile to come in for a cold drink and cool off. Happen to look out the window a few minutes later, the burn pile is a raging inferno. Must have been some hot coals left from that Saturday burn, huh? So out they go, the 30 yr old, the 21 yr old and the 52 yr old "boys". The burn pile is next to the corral and the cattle rub has now ignited and a couple of fence posts are smoking. So they move the truck and and trailer away from the fire, hose down what's not supposed to burn, and move on to bigger and better things.

Hubby got a shiny new chain saw last week. It wasn't long before I hear it running. Running quite a while. Then there is a big "thud" that shakes the house. They have cut down a tree. It was a rotten old tree and needed to come down, just didn't realize they were gonna tackle it spur of the moment on a 100 degree day.

There's an old stump on the other side of the yard from a tree that was cut down last year. It's getting dry enough it might burn. So they put a shovel full of coals out of the burn pile down the tree stump. To make sure it catches, they put a pop bottle with some kind of fuel down the hole, too. Vooosh! It worked. Guess it got boring standing around watching it smoke. Soon, there is a BOOM that shakes the house. Hubby had a big firework left over, supposed to be 1/4 stick of dynamite equivalent. So down in the stump it went. But it didn't shatter the stump like they had hoped. Bummer.

Then the chain saw fires up again. They are cutting up the trunk of the tree they felled. Then the skid loader fires up and they haul it off to the BIG burn pile in the back.

Then it was beer-thirty, then dinnertime, then they went home. A good day to be a boy with big boy toys, huh? They crack me up. I love my "boys"...but there is never a dull moment.

It was a good day but a little hard on the nerves. They were on a roll! I feel very blessed that most of our family are also friends in that we enjoy each other's company. Over Labor Day weekend, we are going camping together at a place with 300 acres of ATV trails. We have 2 ATV's running and the cousins are bringing another so it should be a good time. Although I do regret that my grand-daughter is too big to fall asleep in my lap around the campfire anymore. :(
