Meanwhile in the real world of cattle........ I watched a few minutes of Superior. They were selling feeder steers. I bet there are people dancing on the tables in Winnemucca today. The only one I wrote down was a lot out of central California. 460 head of steers with a base weight of 835 pounds sold for $2.67. That is $2,229.45 a head if they hit the base weight as an average. Gross total of $1,025,547. Just a little more and we will be talking real money.

I went and looked and I couldn't find them. I did see lot 7301 listed which sold a short time after the one I mentioned. I know they listed the owner as being from Sacramento. Maybe the cattle were located in a different state?

#7299 I was wrong about the state. 460 head with a Reno NV address. They go pretty fast. The ones right behind them were from CA.

Wow...... They are selling dairy beef cross cattle. I watched starting with lot #7452. One feedlot in Hereford TX sold what I totaled at 2,519 head of dairy cross steers and heifers. Weighing 500-600 and sold for $2.60-$2.40. You know they are dancing on the tables. If you have never been to one of the big Superior sales to watch it live and in person you should go if you can. I went to Winnemucca in 2014 and in 2015. It is an experience.

Week in the Rockies a couple lots went for $3+. Never been to a Superior auction. I watch on tv. I couldn't afford anything, so no desire to go. ...In case someone is interested, on DV Auction there is a mini donkey sale in August. {click here} o_O

Steers weighing 480 for $3.58, weighing 450 for $3.72, at 530 for $3.32, at 480 for $3.60. and weighing 450 for $3.71.
Heifers at 425 for $3.50 amd weighing 470 for $3.25.
A lot of cattle from this part of the world sell tomorrow. I think I will have neighbors celebrating.

Just a year or so ago, seems like there was a lot of discussion that the packers control the market and were sticking it to the cow-calf guys and not letting us make our share. What happened I wonder? :)

Prices like that would be something to see. I’d say there will be a lot of celebrating by those that are selling. I know it’s a different part of the country and the cattle and markets are different, but that’s over $1 more than what most of those would bring here right now.

We are in drought so are going to be cutting loose some heavy breds and pairs.

They gotta be green and slightly skinny to get top dollar. Yours probably won't bring top per pound because they will be more fleshy, but they should have the weight to make it all good in the end.

I haven't seen any 750 at $3. But a lot of them over $2.60

How about selling some now and some in October? I am risk averse though and like to reduce as much risk as possible.

Looking for opinions. I have 10 steers and 5 heifers that are Feb. and March born. They are pushing 400 to 450lbs. I have plenty of grass and the calves are milk fat for sure. Should I risk keeping them another month and weaning them for a month and sell or sale now? The picture is from 7/9/23

I finally penned a char steer that was evading us when we sold steers last month. I hauled to waurika that steer and a 450lb char cross heifer that has learned the art of walking the cattle guard. Steer brought $1970 and heifer almost $1300. Wish I had 20 more to haul
