Massive M-700 Recall

I've seen this before through the years. But the fact is never point a gun at something your not willing to destroy. Keep your barrel pointed in a safe direction, is one of the first things I was taught. I had my BB gun taken away for not following the rules plenty.

That only addresses the not shooting something you don;t want to. It still doesn;t address it firing when the safety is moved to off. I had that problem with the wifes M700 when it was new, only happened twice but it still isn;t right.

I've got three of those guns. Old to just a few years old. Wonder what the particulars are on the recall. Are they all going to Remington or to authorized gunsmiths?
I have one in 30-06 I was going to get the trigger worked on anyway, its so hard to pull I can't keep from jerking the gun, never seen a trigger that hard.

Replace it with a Timney and don't look back.

Just tell my gunsmith that's what I want?

Yep and you won't have to wait months for Remington to get it back to you. They are amazing triggers. I use Rifle Basix also on my Savages

No surprise here Remington quality has been in the drain line to the septic tank for years.
The guns that were sought and cherished in my youth have gone the way of the dinosaur.
Out of the top four Browning still builds a respectable firearm. Winchester and Marlin are dead.
Marlin is a Remlin now, Remington is crap, used to produce some of the finest firearms.
Old Winchester 94's are selling for more than the new ones at the local gun shop.
There is not one new Remington shotgun or rifle on the self there, never thought I would see that day.
One new Marlin in there as Henry and Rossi have taken the lever gun market here.
Most of the deer rifles being sold here are Ruger American's.
Shotguns are Mossberg , Browning and Benellis a few CZ's.

Does anyone know if the Timney triggers are as good as Jewel triggers? I have a Jewell trigger on a 700 and like it. I was thinking about getting another for my Savage but I noticed I can get a Timney a little cheaper. Thanks.

I can only say that at one time, Jewell was considered the better of the two. I no longer know. As Hook said above, the Timney trigger is very easy to fit; might need a nice small file set is all.

Thanks guys.
CB I don't buy new guns but I bought a not to old 700 a few years ago that had almost no use on it for a truck gun. It's black Syntheic stock chambered in 243. I really like it and seems like a good gun. Likening it more than I thought I would.
Everything else I've been buying are a few Remington's from the 70's but mostly Belgium Brownings and Pre 64 Winchesters.
Last year I did break down and buy a new A5, 3 1/2" Browning brand new.

My Pre 64 M-70 is one of my rifles with a Timney trigger. The timney trigger for the Model 70 is delightful.

I love those per 64 M 70's.

I own one bolt action rifle and it is in a horrible caliber.
Thinking before I sell it make some hand loads and see if I like it any better.
I still shoot a Remy 740 in 30-06 that will drive tacks made in 1956.
Got lucky on this one as the gun was never known for MOA accuracy and had bolt and receiver
issues. Mine has been a gem.
All the rest have a lever on them.

I have nine to send back.

Sent in all the information and received the shipping boxes from Remington. I've had the shipping boxes for a while but I think I am just going to change out the triggers in instead of taking a chance on losing a gun.

I wonder if Remington insures the guns when they send them back. All of this seems like a potential nightmare.

Got a couple of real nice ones here that I like pretty well. Oh wait, they belong to Jed. :cowboy:

Haven't tried a jewel trigger but I've heard they are on par with each other. And my rifles with timneys are my favorites

Hook, is there a range of serial numbers in the recall? I have a Rem. 7mm mag. Hubby says, "it's the cheaper model, w/out the floor plate."
