Nope, Turk Robinson is a good friend, the First Marlboro Man, doesn't smoke, and is very much alive.Farmerjon":1mhxxywj said:I have no documentation, but have heard that everyone that portrayed the Marlboro man died of lung cancer. When I smoked, that was why they were known as "cowboy killers".
john250":3h2hj9z2 said:"Smoking related" death is whatever the statisticians declare to be "smoking related". If some cowboy in an F250 ran over you at the crosswalk while you were distracted fumbling in your pocket for a lighter that is "smoking related". I'm not promoting smoking, but there is an agenda with the "anti-tobacco" crowd which is funded by taxes on tobacco. If they eliminate smoking, they're out of a job. These statisticians could easily switch to declaring being run over by a cowboy to be "Beef related". Sheep farmer, "Mutton related". Backyard chickens, "chicken related".
I decided long ago that worrying about smoking would kill you sooner than smoking.
"Second hand smoke" is a real statistical nightmare. Call me a denier. I don't believe in "climate change/global warming" either.

But I do not like this social engineering bringing pressure to bear to make people quit smoking. That is not freedom like America used to be.
Smoking today, then alcohol, then sugar, then red meat, etc.3waycross":227wie6r said:Ryder":227wie6r said:I used to smoke. I quit years ago because "I" decided to quit. I would encourage anyone not to smoke.

I would agree with you except for the fact that sooner or later i and others end up paying for your descision to smoke.......Why should someone who never smoked be forced to pay for those who do.
That's not social engineering that's recognizing that a thing is a poisin and doing everything in our power to keep kids from ever starting on it.

Do me a huge favor, please check to see how much crap is emitted when you fire up your truck, grill, bonfire, and let's not forget welding and anything else that burns. I do not advocate smoking, but it's NOT THE ONLY THING THAT CAN CAUSE LUNG ISSUES. I was exposed to asbestos for years working in auto parts, but because I smoke they will not acknowledge that as a possible reason for me to have lung issues. It will be because I am a smoker. I had a great grandmother who lived to be 96 and smoked cigars and drank whiskey everyday. my maternal grandmother was surrounded by 2nd smoke her whole marriage until she passed away in 84.. no lung issues with her ever... so I won't buy into this causes that, ect .i believe the majority of things is based on hereditary including dental problems... *climbs off soapbox and trips over left foot*

Do you see that there is a big industry, formed over a century or two now, to try to GET you to smoke? You seem really upset about the forces encouraging you (even nudging you) to try to take better care of yourselves and NOT smoke. Please do save just a little bit of that righteous indignation for an industry which put out a product it knew was poison; marketed it (thru drs!) as a health kick; put chemicals in to deliberately make it more addictive; marketed it to kids; then lied to cover up all of the above for decades....
I don't know your circumstances, but go ask your kids (if you've got them), parents or spouses (ditto) whether they are glad you are exercising your right to smoke, or would prefer that you quit. Then report back.....My dad was recently hospitalized for COPD. Keeps getting pneumonia now. He's gone pretty quickly from an active retirement, golfing/travelling/fishing, to almost unable to walk. Think he wishes he could take back years of smoking?
