Mama cow

I have a cow that had a baby 2 days ago she will not let baby milk and her bag is huge what do I do milk her everyday is there way to get her to stop if she is not going to let baby milk

First, did you give the calf colustrum? If so are you bottle feeding it now. Best way to get the cow to stop milking is to cut her head off. If she wont let a calf suck she is hamburger.

We had a two year old many years ago that would not let her calf nurse. First time momma, and I am sure it hurt. We would put her in the chute and tail her while the calf nursed, but if the calf tried when we were not there, she would lift her back leg and hook it on the calf's neck and kick it away.
I got tired of the chute, and mad at the cow, so I bought a pair of hobbles and put them on the cow. She could walk still, but not pick her foot high enough to kick the calf off. Had the hobbles on for two days, and it fixed the problem. She stopped trying to kick. We removed the hobbles and she acted like she should. Never tried to kick off a calf again. She just needed to figure out what her job was, she was not mean and loved her baby but did not like the nursing.

You'll probably have to put the cow and calf in a barn stall and lasso the cow. Your the lasso off tight to a barn post and push the calf up to the teats. Either slap the cow or hit it with a stick every time it kicks at the calf. You'll have to repeat this at least twice a day until she finally accepts the calf.

That's a term for sending her on down the road too. Not you actually cutting her head off the packing plant would. If she can't raise a calf she has no use in the cattle world and needs to be sold.

Hobbles as FireSweep said. We have had neighbors bring their pair to our pen. Put the momma in the squeeze chute, hobble and turn them out together. Some times it may take a day, some times only minutes.
If she is kicking the calf it will not take long for the calf to quit trying. Needs to be addressed as soon as can be.

Yes that is what I meant. A cow that is that much trouble is of no use to me. Hope she takes the calf and does you well.
