We just weaned a bull calf we're selling to a neighbor, he was born 2/27/16. Do you think he's too young for a magnet? All our cows/bulls/retained heifers have one but the heifers don't get theirs until they're 15 months old, right before we turn them out. BTW baby boy's got game! Very proud of him :)

We've had a lot of hardware and while magnets are not 100% effective (same as any vaccine), they're our best defense. That said, it is possible for them to pass the magnet (very rare) and "hardware" is subjective, not always metal and could be a sharp rock, piece of glass or even a honey locust thorn - again, very rare but can happen.

Aw come on, there isn't any hardware in all those pristine pastures that we all rent and use for grazing is there?????? :shock: :shock: :shock: :lol: :roll: :roll: :roll: Yep, we use them too and they are almost gospel on dairy farms....

When we fed baled hay that had wire instead of twine we always used magnets. Since we've quit using wire bales we haven;t used any. Still have several in the drawer that we pulled out of steers we slaughtered
