Hardware generally goes through the rumen and punctures the heart but can also puncture a lung or other organs. Symptoms I've seen in my cattle are rapid weight loss/loss of appetite, milk production drops if she has a calf on her, sometimes drooling, poo starts to get hard and dark, swollen brisket &/or legs, they may runch their back and lay down with their head/neck extended for better air flow. Temp is initially normal.That's interesting. I've heard of hardware disease before but didn't know symptoms. Never googled it till now . I've lost cattle over the years from unknown causes . Makes you think .![]()
Magnets are inserted with a baling gun, and they settle in the rumen. Assuming the object it metal, it sticks to the magnet and stays there for the life of the cow. Well, theoretically. Rare, but it is possible for a magnet to pass.
