lost heifer Texas

a fellow KFC member bought a heifer and she took off the first night ,and he has not been able to find her , we know she is hiding in some ones herd close by ,so if anyone in the area could help keep their eyes open for her it would be appreciated ,as she will stand out like a sore thumb ,she is a Dutch Belted Dairy heifer

Not all neighbors are like that.....wouldn't be a problem here. I've put neighbors animals back without even a call. Left animals in pastures until they had time to get them. Only once did I make a mistake and gave a young bull to the wrong neighbor. :lol2:

That's right in Texas it is illegal to keep, sell , shoot, or even turn out a stray cow. If you can't find the owner you call the sheriff and they send someone to catch the cow. She will impounded at the nearest sale barn . The owner can bail her out.

May be illegal but I'll be darned if I'm going to allow anybody's cow run up and down the road and take a chance on it causing a wreck that kills folks....I'll pen it if at all possible. I'd want him to do the same if one of mine was out. Usually don't have to go too far up and down the road to find the owner.

It's not exactly "estray" if you can identify the marking and brand it may carry.

he has been contacting any one he can as she jumped his fence in the night , and has put up flyers

We usually go to 4 or 5 of our closest neighbors who have cattle and if they aren't there we look by the best places for them to find water around us and usually we find them. If not somebody usually spots them. We had one bunch that come from 200 miles south of us and two of them jumped the fence the night they got home. By the time we caught up to them they were 12 miles south. We like to think they were headed home.

well. its illegal here as well to take anyoen elses cattle.. but i could walk into my neighbors herd.. cut the fence.. take whatever cows he has.. even if they are branded. .and they would just be like "well.. have to take them to court"

I've had over 20k in cattle stolen the last 2 years.

I've had over 20k in cattle stolen the last 2 years.

Man, that doesn't seem right. 20k stolen and law enforcement won't do anything. I would definitely be going to higher authorities. Someone's not doing their job.
In Texas we have the southwestern cattle raisers rangers.we're very lucky I guess. They don't screw around. A very unique bunch. They are badge carrying gun toting, elite rangers. But they are funded privately by cattle men. Their is a brand inspector at every cattle auction in the state. They are very successful at catching and prosecuting cattle thieves.
They also recommend fire branding your cattle as the best way to prevent theft.
Along with not feeding them in catch pens.
Sidenote. Over 90 percent of stolen cattle are stolen by employees, family, or acquaintance
