Been workin in big city and due to change in job moved back to rural america. Bought some older cows to get started 9-10 yrs old. 9 yr old cow lost calf today that was born last night. I travel some as a sales rep so buying another calf isn't an option, as I don't want to put the burden on my friend who is my partner.
Question #1 Is do I put wheels under her right away or let her rebreed and then put wheels on her. I know now she will only bring slaughter price, but she is probably a 1300 lb cow and big and fleshy.
Question #2
What is best to buy to try and recoop some loss. Do I buy a pair, another bred cow, or wait til spring and buy a calf to put on grass with my others.
Thanks in advance for all the replies. PS this site is great for advice and it really helped me remember what to do to try and save the calf.
