1st heifer, just about a year old, about a week ago, she started coming down with "something" off feed, then a couple days later noticed her bag was swelling something terrible on one side, had vet out, thought she either got kicked or stepped on, mastitis or infection setting in and started her with a round of antibiotics ( I wasn't there so I don't know what was given and husband isn't good with med's names). Last couple of days she seemed to be perking up and eating better, she was looking pretty ragged tho...I think the cold snap did her in...dead this morning.

2nd heifer, she stuck her head thru a netting fence couldn't back out(?), or slipped and went down, small amount of stuggle from the looks of it, slipped under the fence (on a side hill) her feet were heading up hill, bloated...dead this morning. This was one of my fav's...she was going to be a keeper :(

I haven't lost an animal in over 3 years now, quite a blow to lose 2 in one night....

Bummer of a night, Mitch.

Sorry to hear about your string of bad luck.

Lost a calf here myself in the wee hours of the morning.

Like the saying goes, "If you've got livestock, you've got deadstock.", but surely doesn't make it any easier when they go teats up.

Take care.

mitchwi, so sorry for your loss.
I lost my first calf of the year a couple weeks ago, premie which lived for a week, finally got a heifer out of that cow. Unfotunately disappointments are part of the deal.
I hope things get better for you.

that sucks mitch. bad luck tends to run in streaks like that. i thought i waas having a bad day, had 11 cows out and got one with a SEVERE limp that i think is footrot. but when i revved the fourwheeler all 11 went to the hole in the fence and went out in a single file line.
