Have y'all seen the video of the looters at walmart? theres the one guy toting around a big tv, a little boy with a pink shirt, another kid with one of those toy cars you get in and drive, some kids riding bicycles down the aisles, and then the "police officers" filling up a buggy with shoes and stuff. then when the reporter asks the officer what shes doing she says "looking for looters" and strolls off (meanwhile looters are running all over). ok, i dont really expect them to be able to do anything about the looters, and it would be fine with me if they were looting food and water but tvs, shoes, etc, come on now. how sad. lets hope the terrorists arent smart enough to take advantage of this situation.

Yeah perishables is one thing. I mean it will go bad anyway but the stuff you talk about is just plain old stealing. Our sheriffs department put it out on TV last year every time we got hit. He basically said that looting will absolutely not be tolerated and they would be out looking for looters. They go to jail get locked up and they will get around to charging them when they get around to it. Seems this happens every hurricane, fire, or a verdict that goes the wrong way. We need better laws to prevent this.

Laws won;t solve the problem. Morals and principles are the only thing that will help. But in society, dirt bags will alwasy be scum. And we all know that scum rises to the surface.

Well Dun and Crowder, maybe I should have explained my "laws". My laws, are all looters will be shot on sight. All looters or suspected looters will be shot on sight. ;-)

I heard this AM that now there is a group of armed thugs stealing cars that were abondaned by evacues. Come on people, were they taking the cars? How are they taking the cars, the place is flooded. Gas prices here went over $3.07 yesterday. If these thugs can afford the gas to put in the stolen cars, of course I know they are stealing the gas, where are they even getting the gas from? Then when they are arrested or shot by law enforcement they need to take the cash they have on go to the shelters with it. It is a said day when you see the law stealing.

No way would I ask another person to put their life on the line to keep a tv,computer, etc. on a shelf that is going to be a insurance settlement anyway. I think public service sectors should be helping those trying to find safe haven, not protecting business properties that for economical purposes are lost anyway. Rope it off, let those bringing family out. The rest? well let'em stay and drink sewer water with their new tv's.

Yesterday, Arkansas sent 40 state troopers to Louisiana on temporary assignment per the Louisana Gov's request. Supposed to be helping out with the problem.

Everytime the news spends more than 30 seconds on the disaster area and it's not good news I get the itch to change the channel.

Those things do happen. But for the most part, Mississippi people are good, friendly people. I would a lot rather go to Hattisburg than some of the larger cities.

That's more like it! I was wonderin' when the "typical" Americans would come out of the woodwork. I couldn't agree more, the lootin' SOB's would think twice about liftin stuff when they're looking down a smokin barrel. That's our biggest problem in Canada with crime - too many sissies in the media saying it's brutality to beat a criminal. Heaven forbid they get punished for what they've done!! Half the time they don't make 'em accountable for anything they've done. What a world we live in. :x

Beefy---hate to tell you, but the terrorists are already using the hurricane to their advantage...just heard on the news that the "extremists" have announced that mother nature and Katrina have joined the "Jihad" against the american "infidels"...pretty damned pathetic!!! Now i hear that FEMA has stopped all attempts at rescue because someone has decided to take shots (literally) at some of the rescue choppers and there are widespread reports of assaults and rape!! My heart breaks for those who are simply trying to get by and doing so legally and ethically!!! :(

This might not be a popular post, but seeing all of the looters/thugs/criminals makes me not even want to help out with any donations. My wife and I had planned on it, but seeing all of the two-legged trash coming out of the bowels of New Orleans is turning me against it at a high rate of speed. The same thieving-ass, worthless bums (even whole families) that you see hauling stolen stuff back to the projects will be some of the first ones with their hand stuck out when the Red Cross shows up.

And many insurance policies won't cover the looting, dj. I'd like to find a charity for uninsured small businessmen screwed by looters and ignored by law enforcement. Maybe then I'd reconsider helping out.

Hate to get into anything that borders on political, but I think every United States Senator and Congressman since LBJ that has voted to foster and perpetuate that garbage needs to come get a load of them and take 'em back home. And everybody that voted for those politicians needs to house some of them, too. They're nothing but worthless dependents of the federal government now. That means us and I really don't want to continue to support my share of 'em. :mad:
