Bigfoots comments on another topic got me to thinking. I can use 60-70 maybe more longhorn and/or corriente calves weighing 250-350.
Anybody have them or know a source? PM me if you would rather people not know you have some of them. :lol2:
 
I know this thread was started as a joke but I honestly believe that using longhorn genetics is a wise decision for many reasons.
 
I was thinking Kenny and Jed are gonnna make a western , get filthy rich, and we'll never hear from them again!
P.S...... Kenny...these hobby farmers up here get those LH mamas,then get tired of them and they end up in the kill pen as young cows. If you come up and get their heads in my headchute without cussin I will give you their calves!

I wasn't joking, I missed the boat bad back when they were those prices. I could have put some places together to but them and with the price of calves now even with a discount would be turning more profit per head than the popular "in breeds".
 
Ohiosteve, Didn't mean to offend some of you longhorn guys. I would not be against buying some of the longhorn cows that I see coming through the sales.I hardly ever see any LH that have been pregged at sales I go to. My neighbor has 5 or 6 mixed in with his cow herd and their calves seem to be as big in the fall as their half siblings on 1400 lb beef cows. Those smaller LH cows surely don't need as much hay and pasture as those 1400lb cows.

Not a joke at all. There is a big demand for these small calves in this area for roping and penning calves. Maybe they wont bring $2.00 a lb but they can sell pretty good. You find me 75 at a decent price and I will bring cash and a truck if anyone thinks im joking. Not the truck thats stuck either. :oops:
I also think having a few longhorn cows has been very profitable. Plus I don't have a dog problem anymore.

You find me 75 at a decent price and I will bring cash and a truck if anyone thinks im joking. Not the truck thats stuck either. :oops:

Don't forget about the horns....they take up A LOT of room..... ;-)
 
I've been giving a lot of thought to selling all my cattle and replacing with the longhorns. If I did this, should I buy a Dodge dually with the chrome package or would an F250 do?

350 dually and chrome package it is. I'm going with the spiral stair case to get in my door as well. In chrome no less.
 
I am now that I found these. I'm sure I can buy these 3'fers for less than $4500 a pair. Just had a big rodeo event here so demand should by high for some time.
