Longhorn cow

Took a picture of one of my cows, thought you folks might like to see her. She's 12 years old, a Not Gunna daughter. Currently has a look alike bull calf on her from my black and white junior herd sire.

Pretty cow, looks in good shape for a 12 year old. Sure would like to see a profile shot before making any other comments, though.

This is the only other shot I have of her at this time, was made back a few months ago.

Looks good, real feminine. Comparing both pics looks like she has good capacity and spring of rib. Looks like she would pass on some pretty good muscling in her calves.

I was just wondering, how do you work your Longhorns? I've heard they learn to turn their heads sideways when going down the chute and I know they manufacture "Longhorn Chutes." Just curious.

Here is a pic of one of my 2 cows.

She's a 4 year old.
Sire: S-D MR G (60" tip-to-tip, 2000lb + GF G-Man son)
DAM: KISS ME KATE (WR TRAILS daughter)
She is the dam of the heifer in the post HEIFER PIC here on the breeds board.

she has a real good lookin heifer at side sired by SD BRAVEHEART, a son of NP REDEEMER'S REDEMPTION

I was just wondering, how do you work your Longhorns? I've heard they learn to turn their heads sideways when going down the chute and I know they manufacture "Longhorn Chutes." Just curious.

We run ours through a chute/alley they get good at manuvering their horns through. We squeeze our big bulls and steers at the beginning of the chute in a semi-circle area with a side swing gate (hope that makes sense)

J.T. We pretty much do the same thing that Ryan does. We just squeeze em up and git er done.

Good looking bull calf. If he doesn't turn out to be a good bull, he should make a gorgeous steer with that color and the good horns his mom shows.

this is the calf currently at side, sired by SD BRAVEHEART. She was born in February.

Here's a 16 month old heifer that we thought was worth hanging on to. I've put her with this bull to see what we get-he's 17 months old.

Congratulations on your winnings. I would have liked to have gone to the Horn Showcase sale but just couldn't fit it in. I was actually in Virginia picking up a big Butler bull that I bought. Your bull looks really good, should definitely put good form on a calf. The bull calf that I have in the picture is a Wanted Man son out of a cow that we purchased in the 2003 Horn Showcase sale in November. The cow is from Russell E. Fairchild's herd. We placed fourth in the top ten last year with her in Non-Haltered Mature females and could probably have done better if we could have gone to more shows. It's hard to travel to Texas too often from Tennessee. :)

I bet you'll be happy with your cow from Mr. Fairchild. He's got some good animals, I've been friends with him since I can remember.

I wasn't too impressed with the animals at the sale. THere were a few good ones, but I don't think the prices were real high either, well at least not compared what we've recently seen. I just caught the last half, walked in when lot 40 a Big bodied red cow(one of the better ones i saw) went for only like $1600.

I think the Fall Horn Showcase sale is better-at least I think the prices are. I plan on taking this heifer to the November sale. Tell me what you think about her. Do you think she might do ok in that sale?

She turned two in April, she's out of our big black and white Tabasco son and a big horned cow that is 5/8 Butler (Little Ace breeding). Of course the Tabasco son has a good bit of Butler too. She's not going to be a real big cow but I believe she's going to have the horn. I'll post a picture of the bull she's bred to.

He'll be three in September-out of a Whelming King son. He had a good set of horns but had to break off 3" or 4". We're expecting his first calves this summer.

She looks good. I think she should do well in the sale, looks like she has pretty good horns. The Tabasco and Little Ace breeding in her pedigree definantly won't hurt her at the sale. Its hard for me to tell though, I don't make it to but a couple sales a year. And I don't know much about horns, since i don't put much, if any, emphasis on them. THe only thing might be hurting her is her color, but with good horns like hers color shouldnt be too much of a problem.

Personally, I like her. Has a good topline, good conformation and looks real feminine. I would like to add some more natural thickness to her and like i said above some color, and maybe drop her down a little in the flank (just being picky), but that could get better after a few calves.
How old will she be when she has her calf?

I love that color on the bull. Would like see him a little thicker, but he should do good for you in the horn department. Do you know about how much he weighs?

The heifer should calve early fall. The bull is probably about 1200 lbs right now. I don't think he will ever be a really large bull. He's out of a 71 1/8" horned cow. She wasn't a big cow and was all white but she really put out the horns-I never owned her but a friend did. She is deceased now. Here's a picture of her grand daughter-I believe she's going to be just like her when's older. She turned three in February.

She's definantly got a big set of horns on her.

If your heifer has her calf before the sale that should definantly help her out.
