locking stifle

Help Support CattleToday:

Got it done
Vet seemed to think it would fix the problem without having to sever the tendon
1 week stall rest
3 weeks in small lot
Then few weeks of light riding

He is uncomfortable and must think I did it.
He is pizzed at me, when I walk up to him he lays his ears back acts like he wants to bite.
I had a tough time giving him bute when he didn't want it or me around him

It's been 5 weeks and today was the 1st ride.
Something wassn't right from the start.
Walked him through the pasture for about a mile and just couldn't tell what was wrong.
Started back to the barn and he seemed fatigued, slow, uninterested or I don't know.
I had fed the cows there at the barn in the lot before we left, so I was pushing them back out to pasture.
One calf cutback in behind us so I very carfully trotted him after the calf and he has a bad limp on the same leg.
Funny thing is just before I caught and saddled him I had turned on the siren to call the cows and he came running and bucking like a colt.
He seemed to be on the mend but the limp has me worried

I would give him at least 6 months recovery time. Bearing your weight could be putting a bit of stress on the injury.
Horses are put on stall rest because they don't think like people. An injured person knows not to do something because it will hurt and not heal.
A horse that feels good, will run and play and then be sore later.
I hope that he will be OK.
