My mother had a dexter cow that would not settle via A.I. so we turned her in with a very low BW Balancer bull. Well she had the calf with no problem at all. Cute little rascal of maybe 40 lbs.

There ya go.. trying to start a new minature breed...
Yep a Balexter......coming to a pasture near you. They will be in direct competition with Jogeephus's Imbalancers. :lol2:

Oh my gosh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So flipping adorable.
I wonder how long before the snack sized beef jerky out grows his momma?
Can you post his progress?

Thanks for sharing this, there is a 1/2 mini cow that I would love to buy, but folks are skeptical on calving her.
Would AI her to a proven low BW bull.

Backyard Balancers. Hoss I think you might be on to something!
That's perfect! The brochure can say "the perfect Balanced beef cow for backyard producers". :lol2:

No problem. This pic is a few weeks old. I forgot I had it on my phone. I will snap a new one when I go over to check on my weaned heifers that I have over at my parents place.

I want a Backyard Balancer.

Cute calf. I'll be interested in seeing how it grows. I have seen the results of Shetland and Welsh ponies bred to a full size horse. The foals are teeny, but soon grow much taller than their dams. I wonder if the same will happen with the calf.

You got something there.. That name is genius. Backyard Balancer.

I add my vote to periodic progress reports. All the way to the plate if that where it goes.

How big was the papa?

Papa is out of a Balancer bull named Carolina 5423P and a Summitcrest Alliance Balancer cow. 5423P is a shorter bull and the cow is finer boned. Papa had an actual BW of 74 lbs an adjusted weaning weight of 702 lbs and I sold him to my neighbor at about 800 lbs. I am guessing that he was around 1k lbs as a yearling. I don't think he will ever get much over 1,600 lbs. He is a shorter bull (gets that from 5423P) with a guestimated frame score of 5ish. Papa's Reg # is 1180132 for those who care.

Here is a pic of the little rascal (it is a heifer) today. One month older than the first pic.

Here is her momma. An older Dexter cow......ugliest cow on the planet but my mother hand raised her and is attached to her. She knows how to mother a calf.

At least the month old heifer looks better than the dam.
Yep......she is pure ugly. I think I posted her pic in an ugly cow thread a few years back. The funny thing is that she has never had an ugly calf. She has always had really decent calves (for Dexters that is). She has produced 6 or 7 calves that my mother has had no problem selling. I guess she will be on my parents place until she dies.
