Haven't seen enough of New England to have an opinion but I've seen enough of the Packers to know that their defense is better than the statistics show. Their offense puts up so many points so fast that the other team is almost always playing from behind so they pass more trying to catch up. The Packer's defense then plays soft coverage being willing to give up yards but not wanting to give up the big play. That said, there's no doubt their defense isn't as good as last year but 12-0 is 12-0 no matter how you get there.

Remember the old rule that says a team has to have a strong running game and a strong defense to win consistently? Not only are the Packers 31st in total defense but they're 29th in rushing. The rules are changing.

Not really much on stats or rankings , If your talking about defense and I had 1st pick for a defense player it would be Clay Mathews and would still take Charles Woodson for my 2nd pick, saying that packers lead the league for interceptions and rank 17th for points scored on defense and them stats might go up after tonights game, if your into stats, and as far as offenses go, no one in the league can deal with the packers, heck last game they lost was almost a year ago against the Patriots on their field with a back up quarterback that whent down to the wire, for you stat folks thats 2nd in NFL history.

I was surprised when I heard the stats on the radio and was being sarcastic when I said too bad they didn't have a chance. It will surprise me if Green Bay doesn't repeat.

Hopefully without :deadhorse: , I can universally say that I find interesting the similarities in these teams vs some College programs and differing interpretations between them. I believe that times are changing and the days of offense having a bigger impact is here.

It just makes sense to me how a good offense can have the upper hand. They only have to be perfect or break open a few plays a game to make a big impact. Defense has to be perfect or near perfect every play to be dominant. With all the new schemes and theories developed, it is tough to be everywhere all the time.

I agree commercialfarmer and Van things are changin and teams seam to be more offfesive minded, heck Van for years the Bears were big on running the ball and great defenses and that was what won games, It seems that it takes talented quarterbacks to run these types of offenses now.

Use to hear "Offense wins games.....defense wins championships". Guess even tho the score is 50-48 if you win you had the better defense. :lol2: Games are totally different these days than they use to be. Remember when Darrell Royal use to say "When you throw a pass 3 things can happen and 2 of them are bad". That hasn't changed but nobody worries about it anymore and the passers are much better.

Except for the first 3 quarters of a Bronco game... then the Tebow experience begins. This next week will be interesting with Brady coming to town.

the sports commentators have a hard time making a good defensive game interesting. They like to yell about the coundown to the goal line and do soccer like scoring calls and then they play them for each other on the sports talk shows.

In todays society the masses want the big play.....

When defenses get too good then the rules have to be adjusted.....

Defenders are all but forbidden from tackling a quarterback.

corners and safeties are called for almost any touch but the offensive reciever can almost push off at will.

There was a time when the running back and the full house backfield was the standard and a good running back was vital. I don't recall the last time I saw a full house backfield and with a few exceptions running backs are commodity players today.

grind it out football is just too dull for the masses. it is just another step in the chickafication of america.

:nod: yes sir, I used to know every running back in the league that was any good because they played for the best teams, now I can't even think of the names of New England's or the Packers RBs.

Running backs are commodities, excluding the elites. Adrian Peterson is good. Cedric Benson is gaining some major yards for the Bengals. Uh, who else? Tebow is a pretty fair running back. So is Cam Newton.
