I called our southern states coop this week wanting to buy anew lick. I've known the guy there for years and he said he had one and didn't need it because he was injecting his bales now. He said he would sell it to me at 3 rd of the cost which is about 100 bucks. He called me yesterday and said it had a crack in the lid and I could have it if I wanted it. Picked it up this morning and few minutes later and a little fiberglass its good as new.

 
That'll work as long as the tub part is still pliable. I know one guy that had an old tank filled and it burst open because the tub was old and brittle.

Maybe some on some really big ranches, but in that case, I may just not be seeing them from the road view.
 
My sister and her son have been trying to give me one for months, but I remember when he was using it. It drew bugs of every description back in 2011 and his supplier went belly up the year after he got it. Not sure how big it is--maybe just 100 gals. I only see them in this area in bad drought years.

M5--you don't have ryegrass green and growing now? Mine has taken off and knee deep if I don't rotate them into it often enough.
 
I had 20 acres planted. On that 10 to 12 acres is under water. its short because Im letting them graze it whilemy Bahia gets some height. Still feeding hay and liquid feed till the grass catches up.

I've had a QLF lick tank since 2010 and it's never drawn bugs. Sure has kept the cows looking good in the lean times, too. Most of my ryegrass musta not made it through the dry winter as it sprouted first rain after I planted it last fall. Just opened the east pasture up again so that will give it a little less pressure.
 
Use to be the thing around here back in the 90's. I had one but never seen much good out of it. Cattle didn't seem to ever lick on it so I had the dealer remove it after about a year. Still had over half a tank of liquid in it. Don't see many any more in fact don't even know if there is a dealer in this area any more. In the 90's everybody and there brother was a dealer.
