Protoporphyria is a heritable metabolic disease of the blood which can be expressed in a number of ways but is usually seen as an extreme sensitivity to sunlight. Although all living organisms exhibit genetic abnormalities from time to time, protoporphyria is the only major genetic abnormality documented in the Limousin breed.<p>I would suggest you refer to the NALF Member's Manual for more detailed information on this topic (Section 5, page E-15). They do an excellent job explaining what it is, how it's inherited and recommendations for dealing with it.<p>
